I had previously read those threads but I don't think this is what I'm hearing. The term clack or clank suggests a metallic clicking noise, such as bearing movement.
What I'm hearing is more of a 'thump' as if the suspension or engine area is being hit by a heavy rubber mallet (hammer). Definitely not metallic. It happens most when hitting holes, drain covers etc at about 20mph, and usually it is one 'strike', but if I drive over very rough ground or cobbles it may make the noise many times in quick succession.
Anyway, tonight I have ordered some new anti-roll bar links; I'll post my findings when fitted and tested.
