Not so much for the speed they take to close but more for the absence of dents that the kids might generate when they open their doors in supermarkets, schools car park, etc...
I agree regarding sliding doors, and I agree when you have a baby on your arm while you want to open your car, it can be very easy having e-sliding doors. True.

Reliability: Our EV1 (Evasion/Synergie) was almost faultless.
EV2: 807 was a (electronic) nightmare for 18 months and then no issue (almost).
I never had electronic pbl's on my 2003 C8, only mechanical!

Keeping our fingers crossed for the C8... But it appears to have greatly improved in quality since the 2003 model...
I agree - I even see differences between my 2005 C8 and my one day old 807.
My history:

1. Ulysse I 2.0jtd S 110hp: 07-2000 => 07-2003 ~147.000km - only mechanical, engine related pbl's (pulley, turbo tubing: a couple of times beside the road)

2. C8 2.0HDi SX 110hp: 07-2003 => 06-2005 & 101.000km - a whole list (A4) of child-diseases (rear tire wire as most important one, doorgrips peeling off, crumbling seat cushions... ), no electronic but mechanical pbl's (again pulley, accessoiry belt, pulley of dynamo/generator: a couple of times beside the road) - car desperately exchanged for new C8 (dealer very comprehensive)

3. C8 2.0HDi Image 110hp: 06-2005 => 07-2008 & 148.000km - just a crumbling seat cushion but later (quality was slightly better) but the broken timing belt (although no pulley pbl's anymore: design of pulley has been changed)

4. 807 2.0HDi ST Comfort 136hp
