Take care when opening the back doors electrically in summer

I mentioned the same problem in an other thread as a post scriptum. Now it happened again:

The kids were sitting in the back, since it was hot the shades were up. The rear clamp of the shade got loosely set (maybe the kids playing around, maybe the wind shifted the shade to muchm, who the hell knows).
When my wife opened the door electrically, the shade caught on the c-pillar and got torn to peaces. It was not readily visible, that the shade was loose - we check this every time before opening since we "killed" the shade on the other side.

To replace the fabric you have to replace the whole inlay of the door (Swiss francs over 500 (330€)).

Once more a feature of this car that is badly and hastily designed. The shades should be fastened in a way they can't get loose so easily. In my humble opinion a case for a free repair. Die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt.

Sorry to hear that, that's really annoying!

I recall your first comment about that topic and believe it or not, based on that statement, I check every time I close the sliding doors whether everything is all set there . Same with the cool thing of closing the sliding doors while already driving. Someone - maybe also you - stated that due to the airstream, the same thing could happen even if the shades were properly fixed. So don't be cool in that respect.

I hope you get the repair for free....

Thanks for starting a thread in english... Gerd will be pleased

This has just happened to me today. The shade is torn and one of the hooks on the top of the shade is broken.
Hopefully a warranty (free) repair.

Did you get the work done for free?

The same happend to me yesterday. The screen in the backdoor is completely crashed!
I was already angry with the kids, but now it turned out that it could also be a design problem. This week i will check with my garage and let you know if it is guarantee. One thing is clear: I will not pay over CHF 500 for a new screen.

My dealer is going to look at this on Thursday to decide if they can do it under warranty.
With so many experiencing the problem just on this forum it has to be a serious design flaw.

@sjb

Can you please provide a photo of the damaged hook and shade ? I wonder if these are different with the electrial version of the sliding doors (what I don't think).

The hooks on my Ulysse seem to be quite solid and once the shades are hooked in, they does not look as they could just "jump" off again and it never happened to me so far (lucky me). And even if it would happen where do they get caught then ? Just wondering...

@holger
I will do this when I get the opportunity.
I don't believe the hook came loose before opening the door, I think it broke when the blind(shade) jammed in the door.
It seems that even when the blind is correctly attached there is enough movement in it for a slight breeze to cause the metal bar at the top to angle inwards as the door opens and it catches against the door pillar.
On my car it not only ripped the blind and broke a hook, it also bent the bar at the top of the blind.

Good news
Yesterday my dealer collected my car to fit the missing 12V power socket in the rear and at the same time take a look at the destroyed sun blind.
Without any arguing when they returned the car they confirmed that they had ordered the parts to fix the blind.

As well as the blind we had also noticed a small tear in the dashboard (2-3mm long) right next to the steering column. We think it was there since new but it was only noticed when cleaning the interior for the first time.
The dealer has ordered a new dashboard !

I am assuming that all of this is being done under guarantee as no mention has been made of cost.
Maybe my dealer is trying to make up for delivering the wrong car when I bought it.

Today my car was collected by the dealer (30km away) who replaced the broken sun shade and the dashboard. The car was returned tonight fixed and sparkling clean. All under warranty.

Now I need to remember not to use the shades

Hi, to you all.

I always used the shades, since March (it's a way of concealing the upper dvd monitor a little more, from the outside) and never had the reported problem, up to now.

But I'm going to be more carefull about this issue, from now on

Greetings,

Vitor

Unhappy

Hi, there.

I've just surfed here from Google - my 807 has suffered the same fate twice, (so both shades are torn) which is a real frustration.

I intend to take the car to the dealer in the next week or so because the BSI's blown up(!) so I shall see if they will replace them under warranty. The only problem is that the car's now 21 months old, so it's touch and go whether they'll replace the shades without a hefty bill...

Cheers

james
