Driver's door window anti-pinch

My wife took delivery of her (March 2003) C8 2.0HDi SX/VIP on November 14. Since then the car has spent ten days in the dealer's workshop for a driver's door window fault.
The fault is easy to describe: if I hit the 'auto up' button, the window will stop short of closing by about 50mm and reverse (obviously the anti-pinch safety feature). If I 'jog' the window up, it will close (although I must stop at least once during the closing process). The dealer has had three attempts to fix it and they have already changed the ECU (they discovered additional faults whilst connected to the diagnostic computer). Now, although it was 100% reproducible en-route to the dealer, they are unable to duplicate the fault. Has anyone else had a similar problem that has been fixed?

Also, the radio loses its programmed stations from time to time and since we haven't had the car for long, it's hard to say what causes the 'memory loss' - maybe using the CD, maybe being left overnight... Again, is this a common fault?

Thanks in advance...
Paul

At first:
!! Welcome to this forum, nice to meet you here!!

I had this problem once with the window at front passengers door on a rentphedra I got of my dealer!

I told it to the foreman of the garage. He told me, that they will fix it!

Sorry, I never saw this car again, so I can't tell you if it is fixed, or not!

Anyone else here with more knowledge?

to this forum, paulvallen! Sorry to hear about your EV2 problems.

I didn't quite understand whether your dealer was now able to fix the window problem or not. Regardless of that, in this forum noone to date reported a problem like that.

Regarding the loss of the stored radio stations, this is also new to this forum unless some members have encountered the same problem but never posted it.

So maybe other members can be of any help here...

Maybe the windows has a false "end point". Did you try to reprogramm it? I think I've read some instruction on how to do that somewhere here in ther forum. I'll search for them when I'm back from the kindergarten.

Thumbs up Window fixed, at last...

Thanks to all who posted.

After a total of twelve days in the dealers and after only 22 days of ownership, they finally fixed it. To be fair, they could not duplicate the problem even once; however, whilst they were investigating the problem, they found other similar problems with windows and doors. They changed an 'ECU' and a 'BSI' and upgraded the software over modem. (The dealer also confirmed that the software is Microsoft (I assume Windows CE?)). The radio station problem is also gone, now.

I would still be interested in the programmable end point procedure for the window, that Arnd mentioned.

Thanks again,
Paul

Question Window Problem

Hi

I have had my C8 for 3 weeks now and this morining experienced the same problem with my drivers Window. The main difference between this morning and previous occasions was the heavy dew so I guess its the anti pinch sensor that is affected somwhow. But I have also noticed that when closing the drivers windows it squeaks (whereas all others are quite). Is there a lubricant required/recommended to ease the windows ?

My C8 is about 4 weeks old and had exactly same problems as birdeman. Within the first week the drivers window (usually when it had been a wet/damp night or dew on the window in the morning) - would play a game with me.

It would squeek when I was closing it. And 3/4 of way up would stop and go down automatically - I would hit button to close window and eventually after two or three attempts it would close. Fortunately the squeeking and window game problem stoped by the 2nd week even though it had been raining night before.

I think to program the window endpoint you have to close the window while you hold the button up - and then keep holding the button for 5 seconds - in my Mini it works that way. In the EV2 you proabably have to turn the key to the "on" position before doing it.

If I remember well, my solution to this problem was to fully open the window. Then close it with short pulls to the knobs first position until it was fully closed. then open with automatic function and close with automatic function and it worked again.

Unhappy front windows anti-pinch safety feature sensitivity

I have a similar problem on my Phedra 6 months old; during summer time I use to start with all windows down to cool the cockpit; after one minute I close all the windows but the anti-pinch safety feature stops the left or the right front window; it happens pretty often; I think that the anti-pinch safety feature is too much sensitive.
Does anybody have the some problem? How does your garage fix it? Is the anti-pinch safety feature sensitivity settable by computer?

Thank you to everybody

Usually, the garage applies some silicon based grease or similar stuff to ease the sliding of the window within the sealing. The problem might be solved for a while, however, this is not the root cause to my mind. Could be that the driver motors vary in current consumption, also (if not mainly) based by the assembly (tolerances, misalignemt and so forth). So a proper solution would be to disassemble the mechanics and put it together properly (well, the garage, if at all, will change the entire interior of the door, of course! )

Can't beleive this............. I read this thread yesterday and today my car is doing the same

What i have noticed is that when I set the window to go down it doesn't dissapear into the door all the way - 3 - 4mm is showing above the window seal - I press the button again and the window drops the final few mm.

When I set the window to go up from the fully down position it stops 3/4 of the way up and then drop down a little. If I let the window go down to its pre set low level (with 3mm of the glass showing) the window will then happlily close in one movement.

Looks like crap fitting of the windows and motors to me.

I also open all the windows using the airing-function when the sun heated up the car. So I have to close all four windows afterwards when driving with the airco. Because I don't want to verify if all windows closed properly in the first run, esp. the ones in the back, I tend to pull all buttons at least twice in order to make sure that all windows are really closed without looking at them.

It would be a nice feature to check the status of the windows (open or closed) via the display, like the doors being displayed when open.
