RT3 with Alpine Head unit !!!! Advice

Hi all

Right, I need some serious advice on a little project I'm embarking on.

As we all know the RT3 is a fantastic piece of kit but it sounds rubbish, under powered, flat sound quality the list is endless.
So I've pulled it out and fitted an alpine head unit just to see how it sounds and believe me, its 100x better........

Because my RT3 has the colour screen, it needs to stay in place, not a problem.
I'm thinking of locating the alpine in the centre air vents (!!!), again that's not a problem for me....the question i want to ask is this.........

Can i get a steering wheel control adaptor that will control the alpine whilst still relaying van bus data to the RT3 ?? Are the wheel controls unplugable or are they linked to the van bus network direct ??

Iv'e been looking at the autoleads adaptors made for the RD3 in ISO form and rewiring this to the QUADLOCK on the RT3 as this is the only van bus one i can find, can i piggy back the 2 van bus data cables from the adaptor to the RT3 ??

Anyone ??????

Skyman: We had the same issue with Alpine Audio and Video system that is installed in our EV2. We have the steering wheel controls for radio, CD, DVD etc... but no display at all on EV2 screen... The installer who did this is very very good but he had to acknowledge that Alpine only manufacture this kind of adaptors for Opel, Daimler-Benz, BMW and maybe Porsche, that's it. He knows of some Espace that he was able to "tweak" but no more. All Alpine seems to look for is how much kit they can fir in a Merc so that they can inflate their prices.

By the way, Keep the RT3 and change the Speakers and you will REALLY see the difference. You can even add an Alpine amp in between if you have the space under one seat...

The Radio does not seem to eb the issue. The speakers were a complete change in terms of power and clarity !

Good luck.

I've got pioneer's in the front at the moment with the rt3 and they sound ok but there magnet is still the same size as the ones i took out !! (slim fit)
but I have a set of infinity's to fit soon with custom door pods

The alpine head unit has more power than the rt3 and sound quite good with the pioneer's at the moment.

Proberly going to detach the stalk control from the steering harness and hard wire it to the alpine !!!! that way the VAN bus wont know theres a problem.
