Rear windows ...AGAIN...
I know it has been mentioned several times in other posts but I am going to start another one in the hope of a final solution.
My rear electric windows open OK either fully or partially but unless wound fully down they will not go up again. Pressing the up button (any one) raises it about 2cm then drops about 5cm, exactly what it should do if it senses an obstruction. BOTH rear windows developed the problem at the same time but my dealer assures me that the sensors are built into each separate motor so I cannot see why they are both affected. I have so far tried : Disconnecting the battery for a mninute Holding the down button for 10 seconds after the window stops Holding the up button for 10 seconds after the window stops Raising the window in short steps to the top Repeating all of the above several times ...but still they need to be fully wound down before they will go up - if you stop them going up and start again they are OK, the problem is only there when you lower them partially. Please help solve this annoying problem - someone must know the answerLast edited by davidwfaulkner; 22nd May 2008 at 13:58. |

Just open them completely and close them completely a couple of times - this will help.
I've the same phenomenal every once & a while, and this always helps. Removes dirt from the windows so that they slide better and don't block when you try to close them from an inbetween open position. |

take a silicon spray and spray it there where the window glides up and down in the door

It is not stiff - it goes up and down smoothly and reasonably quickly...
...if it was due to stiffness it would not go up automatically from the down position - I have proved that by slowing the window down with my hand which made it open again. No, it is not stiff |

Lubricating the tracks perhaps would help.
My garage removed similar phenomenons with this.

My sister who has exactly the same C8 as I have, was here last Sunday, experiencing the same pbl.
We take a look at the rear windows, opened them completely, and then closed them while at the end I put my hand between the window and the frame. First the window tried to close furthermore, but then suddenly it stopped because my hand was there, and afterwards my brother in law could close the window from any half open position. Maybe worth a try? |

Hi Dave,
There is one comment in the workshop manual: To reset the windows (after loss of battery power): - raise the window in steps until it reaches it top point and hold the switch down for 1 second. The main issue I had with the rear doors were the door contacts (on the pillar). The windows are controlled via BSI and therefore a signal will go via the door contacts. Might be worth a try to clean them... BTW, does it work via the remote (auto close function)?

Already tried that (info helpfully supplied by my dealer) and no, it doesn't work with the remote closer or by holding the key in the locked position (I only found that out yesterday !) unless the window is fully down...it is unlikely to be the door contacts as the problem started on both windows the same time

I cleaned the door contacts today - no difference
After washing the car I tried the windows (being wet they would perhaps slide easier) - no difference ! I don't understand |

I posted this on my thread earlier today that you have commented on - my windows are also doing this and it has been driving me mad - what I have found is that the windows are drifting slightly out of the vertical guide, no more than a few mm, and this causes them to refuse to go up at any point until fully wound down. If I open them partially to any point and then push them 'home' back into the guide, they will wind up ok. I think the retaining clamps on the actuator have lost grip of the glass as I can move the window fore and aft quite freely. Need to remove the internal door capping and trim to find out if I'm correct.

I think you've hit the nail on the head so to speak....sure enough as you wind the windows down the glass "moves" back a few mm.......pushing it down at the front levels it again and sure enough it closes as it should, I tried it about 10 times and it worked every time, not levelling it immediately caused the problem again. Like you I had noticed for quite a while (whilst cleaning the car) that the glass could be moved fore and aft quite a bit but up until now assumed that it was "as is". I am not going to bugger about taking the door trims off as the car is still under the 3 year warranty - my dealer WILL fix that ! Well spotted and thanks - at least we now know for sure the cause, all we need now is the solution ! If my dealer lets me know what he did than I will post it back here |

Cheers davidwfaulkner!
I'm going to (if I have time - 4 children, hence the EV2...) remove the trim off one of the doors this weekend to investigate. If I have any success, I'll also post back my findings here as it might give you some useful info to pass onto your dealer, if I don't then its just another load of bits for the roof box!! |
