Which battery model do you recommend/use for the Eurovan2 (2.0 JTD/HDi)?

The battery that came with the car is a low amperage model for some reason so it causes problems in cold weather (takes a few minutes to start at -5C).

We've been looking to replace it for a while, but first we'd like your recommendations.

So, which battery model do you use?

I can get the Bosch one for the same price (+/- a couple of quid), should I go for it over the Varta?

Beste Batterie die ich kenne ist Moll.
Besser als VARTA und billiger. UND Made in Germany was man von Varta nicht immer behaupten kann

battery again

In the (older) Thread "The third battery within 3 years" I tried to put together some facts according to find "a better battery" (see here: http://www.eurovan2.com/forum/eurova...html#post80564).

In this thread I tried to check which battery fits in the compartment using data from VARTA, although I myself I prefer batteries from MOLL or BERGA.

2 years ago I bought a new battery for the W202 Mercedes and received a Moll m3 plus k2 Doppeldeckel 95 Ah (800 A) for 130 euro (including tax; the Berga 100 Ah would have been 149 Euro), which was even cheaper than "no name"-batteries in the local "Baumarkt".

I linked the 2007 ADAC battery test in this Thread: http://www.eurovan2.com/forum/eurova...html#post89868

Before mounting the new battery, I charged it for 24 hours with a little electronic controlled mini charger (1.5 A) from Conrad to be sure that it is fully charged.

The whole battery-Thread is here: http://www.eurovan2.com/forum/eurova...ei-jahren.html

Regards Jörg

I just checked with MOLL, the 83071 with 71 Ah should fit, and maybe the 83075 with 75 Ah (it is 19cm high, the 71 AH 17.5cm - please check the compartment yourself). See here:

Yes, I know that this thread is intended to discuss batteries - BUT are you really sure that a "weak" battery is at the source of your hard ignition???

If the battery could provide power for a "few minutes" of engine starting I would consider that battery is in really good condition!!!

I would check the the glow circuit...

I am saying this because I have the same problem! No problems during the previous winters, but now... Well, my first reaction was also "let's go outside and buy a new battery!" Well done, Bosch Silver 74Ah. (btw the size /and capacity/ of the batteries are standardized - the one that fits EV2s is L3 which are usually at least 70Ah)

But the result is the same! During the starting process the rev of the engine seems to be high enough and is constant - no signs of weakness. I think that here the role of the battery ends - the rest of the process is about the reaching the needed temperature inside the cylinder head - this is where the glowplugs are helping. (in my case starting is easy at about 2-3 deg. C, but at down from about -1 deg C is a nightmare!)

My car is right now at the garage for glowplug replacement.

Pls, keep us updated about your problem, thanks!

I meant that after about 10 attempts it starts up. Turn keys -> car takes ages to turn the engine, then coughs and shuts down. Then do it again and again.

Also, when the engine is newly started, the lights inside the car flicker slightly, which I think is due to the weak battery.

Bosch

Hi,
I have a 7 year old Bosch battery in my other car, still starting normally at -10 C, so my next EV2 battery shall obviously be a Bosch .... Rgds Bor.
