Eobd

Does anyone know if it is possible for non-dealer-mecanics to install a copy of any program to read your EV2 with a notebook? I would like to buy a cable and the software, but the "reall stuff" is very expensive :?

I use an ELM327 lead and ProScan 5.7 software loaded on my laptop to read codes.

Works well for me and it was cheap too.

See those ELM327 leads on Ebay go for under £10.00

Yes, ELM works but gives you very limited functionality within the vehicles software.

Still better than nothing though.

To be honest that Lexia link in the post above is pretty good and cheap too.

Just be a little wary in ordering from China, it could be a nasty copy that breaks in 5 minutes and takes a month to arrive.

Well if ELM327 gives error codes that can help with a few problems
at the price can't be all bad amb67 can you give more info eg
can you reset error codes or engine management light ?
as always feedback is king on ebay etcetc i did see elm327
will link to pocketpc ( eg my phone) would be handy to leave
in glovebox for odd mobile diagnostic.

Yeah, as you may have seen from a few of my posts the wife's C8 is playing around and hence my reason for buying something to interrogate the vehicles ECU. It's not brilliant but if all you want to do is read and reset basic engine DTC's then you can't go wrong. It does also read off live engine data but that's pretty much limited to the MAF, engine temp, vehicle speed, battery voltage, engine load, and a few others that escape my memory at the moment.

However, I would always recommend you get the Lexia kit as it's far superior and let's you do virtually all that a dealer can do. (Shame the price is so expensive)

LEXIA question>

Looking around ebay for available lexia interfaces I have found an interesting aspect>

there is a repeating question in several offerings> "Does it work with diesel engines???" The answer is always: "No, it doesn't!!! Only petrol!!!!!" Although NOT stated dierctly in the offering.
And no details provided...

example (bottom of page, Q&A section)>
Lexia 3 Citroen & Peugeot Diagnostic Scanner( 5 cable) on eBay (end time 14-Apr-10 16:26:38 BST)

Could somebody comment on this, please? What could be the deficiencies of these interfaces in the case of hdi engines, if any??? Does anybody know anything about???

Thanks a lot! Any related information is welcome!

Sorry, but I don't understand. And what if is just a clone? Btw this is the only answer given by all the dealers (can be found in several offerings) - nothing else, no details.

But as I know, forum members who owns such interfaces are saying that they really work with hdi.

Maybe the dealers are misinformed somehow and they don't know the full story.

So what is the truth?
Please share any findings, if it is possible! Thanks!

And what about Fiat and Lancia? Can you connect the Lexia to these cars too, or is it just for Citroen and Peugeot?
