In Hamburg its not allowed to wash the car on street. And on you site you are only allowed to, if you have got an oil separator.

Call me sad if you like, but I adore cleaning my car - somtimes twice a week!

I tend to go and use the pressure washer and then bring the car home to leather it off. The pressure washers here in France are excellent - hot water and high pressure - the car comes up really clean.

I gave my car two coats of Teflon when I got it, which I'll refresh every six months or so. It keeps the laquer nice and shiny and also makes it easier to clean - especially in the summer when it gets covered in bugs.

For those of you with a leather interior, I heartily recommend that you use a protection product on it. It helps keeps the leather in good shape and makes it a hell of a lot easier to clean if there are any 'little accidents' with the kids.

Why is this? Surely the soapy water just runs away down the sewers.
In the UK there are plenty of 'Terraced Houses' where this is the only way that someone could clean their car.

in the most Cities its not allowed to wash the car on street, because some oil of the engine could come along and runs into the sewers.

In Hamburg we have some extra problems. Because of the old age of our canalisation there were (and some are up to now) places where the water flow uncleared into the Alster or Elbe when there was a heavy shower. (Our canalisation is one of (or the) the oldest in europe). And of course the cleaning water not only contains soap but also all the contamination from streets.
Another point is that water is reused in a washplant from 3 up to 10 times (and sometimes even more).
With the new lambskin washers there are no rills any more.

in the area of Stuttgart too.

But washed by hand in a clean park - no problem. They have an oil separator.

It's not only an actual oil leak. It is the contaminated dust of the street that is washed into the waste water.
