Need of changing the FAP filter??

I start this poll because of the FAP filter should be exchanged at 80.000 / 120.000 km, depending on the type of production.

Does someone already changed his FAP regulary??
Not by errormessage of the polution.

Rumors says that the need of exchange is like in former times the intervall of changing the KAT-Filter. There was also a intervall given wich was definetly not necessary at all. I belive the intervall given by PSA is also a intervall cause by fear.

Very interresting question.

If I've understood how the FAP system is working (not so easy because of lack of good technical documentation), a FAP has really to be changed (or correctly cleaned) after some km, unlike a Kat which could last 10 years and many many km.

The main reason would be the Cerium contained in the fuel additive does not burn like carbon particles but remains in the filter and clogs it.

And there is nothing to do against that. The cerium quantity in the FAP is directly related to the fuel quantity burned in the engine. I guess someone with a low consumption should have the low additive warning after 80.000 or 120.000 Km and his FAP should last longer also. And if someone is always full throttle, it should have it before.

But I'm pretty sure the particles themselves, because they don't burn at 100%, clog also the filter. So the FAP life duration is probably affected by the driving style..

And in my opinion, there is no need to change the FAP before the message "FAP clogged" appears. The engine calculator, with differential pressure sensor around the FAP monitors in real-time the FAP efficiency and while there is no alarm, why change?.

but it's only thoughts and I would be curious to know what happen in real life, especially if it is common to drive more than 80000 or 120000Km without having the FAP clogged and an alarm.

Yes confirms my thoughts. I will clean the FAP by myself like it is mentioned in the inofficial regulars of the big Italian company....
Maybe I will be the first volunteer to do that here. I have 80.000 on the clock right now.
@janfi67: if you like more add. infos about the FAP feel free to contact me.

I changed the FAP at 80000, in January 2008, without waiting any alarm nor message.
Nota : before the FAP and after the turbo, there is a KAT on the pipe too.
I think that if you are waiting for an alarm message saying for instance "no additive", some trouble could occur on your engine because the cleaning period would have no effect on the clogging due to this missing additive.
As this cleaning period happens every 400-500 km approx, you have to fill this additive and change your FAP in a short period of time.
It could be done, be imaging you are on holiday or away from your usual garage, isn't there too much risk ?
I guess the engine will run in its safety mode after the pressure transducer will give the alarm...

You're right, when the "no additive" alarm appears, you have to fulfill the additive tank quite "quickly".

According to documentation, you can refuel at least 3 times before the additive tank will be completely empty, for an EV2, it's about 3000 Km. If it is not done in time, it could be problematic to recycle the FAP. Without additive, the burning temperature of particle is 100°C higher than with.

The additive is added during refueling, not during FAP recycling cycle, so the FAP recycling period (which is very different if you drive in a city or on highway) doesn't matter.

Filling the additive tank and changing the FAP is not the same thing, and may be done at different time. For my 807, I remember it’s 120.000 Km for the additive, and 160.000 for the FAP. Exact figures depend of the year/engine of the car.

But I agree with you, if you don’t change the FAP before it is clogged and if an alarm happens during a holiday trip, it’s will be very unpleasant to drive with the engine in safety mode.

It’s a pity PSA doesn’t show to the driver the real FAP recycling period, and the state of the FAP after the recycling (the engine computer has 6 states for a FAP calculated with the differential pressure sensor). For someone with technical knowledge, I’m sure it is a good indication of the FAP shape, and could help to anticipate FAP changing only when it’s really needed.

Where can I get this info? In the manual?
My Ulysse is from 2004...
I had 80 000 km inspection recenty and I don't remember that they changed it.
BTW: what about the costs?

Change FAP Citroen

Hello,
Citroen in Cologne says to change the FAP depending on the ORGA Number

till ORGA 9491 every 80tkm
ORGA 9492 - 10247 every120tkm
from ORGA 10248 every180tkm

So I hope the FAP tank has to be changed at the same time.

I never heared about a routine change of the turbo.

best wishes

Hy,

I refilled additive without changing filter, just cleaning it.

Since then i drove more than 25.000 km without problems (knock on wood)
