My suggestion is to collect them all in the first post, in other words, if a new wish comes in, just add that to your list. We do leave the post, of course.

A classification seems difficult, I also have no practical idea in mind right now.

Thanks for taking that task!

We could let the members vote on each wish. Either in an poll within this thread or we open up a whishlist poll subforum where we will have a separate poll for each wish.

Arrow Wishlist for RT3 : Part 2

As I reached the 10.000 characters limit in the first message, the list will continue here ...

  1. Voice assited directory search. For now, in voice recognition mode, we can either say "Call" ... VoiceID or "Phone" ... "Directory" ... Voice ID (in French, respectively : Appeler, Téléphone, Répertoire). I would like the "Call" ... VoiceID as is,but the "Phone" ... "Directory" going to the ... Directory ! From then, I could use the Navi-wheel (inluding Radio-wheel) to select an entry, or spell the first letter(s) of the name, and select from that point with the wheel. Saying "L" would position me at the first entry beginning with "L" letter, and so on (like when pressing 5 button 3 time (to go to "L"). This would help finding quickly directory entries, with voice command and/or radoi-wheel (all with both hand on steering wheel). Givin a VoiceID to all entries is tedious, and will "mess up" the recognition DB. I admit, single letter A, B, C ... could be difficult to be recognized by the RT3, the I suggest to use the Army spelling code : Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, ...
  2. Permanent display of Radio Text Announced for version 5.5 ? (from KlaBuKi).
  3. CD text display. I would like cd text (permanently?) or a playlist, for the audio sources cd and cd-charger... in using normal audio cd (from tjskd).
  4. Excessive voice directions Turn off the excessive voice directions when navigating. Why do I need to be told to "bear left" when staying on a motorway. (from Paul L)
  5. Pass the returned GSM messages to the display. If you phone *11 something or other to get your pay as you go balance it does not send the answer returned from the servce provider to the display. Only "GMS message succeeded" message is displayed.(from Paul L)
  6. Quicker divert router. Be able to divert your route quicker (less menu navigating) when you see a traffic jam approaching.(from Paul L)
  7. Optimized navigation. Today I can select between shortest and fastest route. When using shortest, it really suggest me the shortest one, but I don't want to drive on field tracks. So, why not having something like Shortest but only main roads. When using fastest it suggests me manly highways when the route takes one minute less, even when I drove 30km more. There should be something like a threshold what the difference in time or km might be, compared to to benefit of it. I think only fastest and shortest is not enough. (from UlysseVolleyFan).

Some suggestions on how to achieve this :
    - Maybe some sort of slider where zero is shortest route and 100 fastest (from Arnd), or 0 to 10.
    - AFAIK streets are "categorized". I would like to choose as preferences what roads to use and what roads not. (In addition to "fastest" and "slowest") (from KlaBuKi).
  8. Standard & Advance mode. I think the programmers wanted to keep the interface as simple as possible. However, there are two types of drivers:
    1. Drivers who read that forum and are/get well acquainted to technical gadgets and love to play around with them
    2. Drivers who just need a thing with four wheels to get from A to B w/o really caring for the gadgets and need them to be implemented as easy as possible.

That leads me to my wish: Have a global choice for a "standard" user interface and an "advanced" user interface. The standard user interface is just as is; the advanced interface provides features like the multiple variants for chosing the route, the option of switching on/off the street names read-out and other things that we wish but would make the interface more crowded. (from DirkS).

This make me think to some Motorola phones, where you can be in standard/advance mode, in advance mode, you have access to all options, some of them are settings you only configure once, and in advance mode, you can also select items you want to figure in standard mode ! So, in standard mode, you have all the options you need, but just those ones : each its standard. (from pierreh)
  9. DVD reader. DVD instead of CD-ROM for maps. I know other cars with Data for whole europe on one DVD an we have to change CDs even if we travel from hamburg to munich.(from phedra70)
  10. Route details options. Once a route has been computed, give, at any time, the option to review the complete track (from start to finish) : list of all the junctions to cross with distance, location, directions changes (like the Becker systems or in ViaMichelin for example) in a scrollable window. This would be particulary usefull for monochrome users, blind on selected route. When on an item, option to select it to see the details, (street name, city, ...) with then the option to "reject" that point or section, forcing a route recomputing bypassing this point. (from Philip307 & pierreh)
  11. Read out street names. Re-introduce street names speech out, as in version 5.40, but optionnal (configurable). (from DirkS, and many others ...)
  12. Full view / detail map auto switch. As seen in another navigation system, the option of a full screen view that switches to the split map/direction when within say 1km of the next turn then after goes back to full screen after. (from Paul L)
  13. Post codes to enter city names (pre-fixed with country code) (from Paul L)
  14. Solve cross Country/CD issue : need to change CD and re-compute route (see post #38 and Cross country navigation. from Paul L)
  15. Pictures uploadable in folder to show the picture in case of incomming call (from croy).
  16. Accept VCARD from other GSM. With my Nokia GSM, I can send a directory entry to another GSM, which can then add it to its own directory. I would like to have the same function on my RT3 GSM : this is a good way to "synchronise" somehow the two directories. When doing this to my own phone number, the VCARD is just display as any SMS message, but not recognized as a VCARD to be added to the directory (and if I select the "Add to directory" option, I only get the sender phone number !) Or is this just a bug ? (from pierrreh)
  17. Add Easy option in Navigation criteria. Prefer less direction changes, main road over "parallel" one on higways (see Navigation Bug w/Benelux 2004/05 CD (Highway crossing bug)). This could be done by adding a "Easy" option in the Navigation criteria, with an additionnal field setting the penalty (in sec, I would not use meters, which would change the overall trip length) you consider in changing of direction (from main route to parallel, ...). The more you set the penalty, the easiest route (with less changes) you'll get. (for easi_rider)
  18. Active Alerts indicator / Better messages management. When one (or more) Alert/Message is active, each time a new message comes, the old(s) one(s) are also displayed, in some priority order : this is not the new one first, but the one with the highest priority/severity. I'd like to have the new message only, not the full list each time. And to recall me that there are some "active" alerts/messages, a small icon, for example close to the GSM one, when active alerts are presents. And flashing if some with "high" priority/severity. (from pierreh).
  19. Bluetooth and/or WIFI incorporation, for exchange of Vcards and bigger indexes. Via SIM only 150 adresses can be copied. And I do not have a SIM-writer in my PDA. Maybe even possible: USB connection for connecting BT-dongle, etc. (from Keeske)
  20. Downloadable POIs like TomTom has. (from Keeske)
BUG Section :
  1. Language change message : "... more than 80 times ..." When changing language, a message is displayed as if we already changed it more than 80 times, while it is the very first ones.
  2. Ferryboad option don't work. The option ferryboat on / off in the menu “guidance options” is not functioning ! The system chooses if possible the ferryboat way, also if this option is deselect. So, you program a trip from start to finish and a river or other water is in between and the river can be crossed by ferryboat, the system choose, no matter what, this way !?? My question is, what is the function from deselect this option? It does not matter is it’s on or off. Also changing the combination shortest to fastest track or reverse gives no better result. I am using now for a while the 5.40 and since a month the 5.41 release on a monochrome system and Benelux 2004/2005. Both software releases gives the same result. (from Philip307)
  3. ...

At least this has been already announced for the upcoming version 5.5 of the RT3 software (planned for 2005). I've already seen this function on the new Peugeot 407 which is being equipped with a very similar parallel development of the RT3 software (Version 6.5) and is a bit ahead.

BTW: This was my 1000. post (hurray!)

Hmmm, does that mean 6.5 is already capable of showing readiotext permanently? I drove a 407 too, but mine wasn't equipped with a RT3, but only a normal radio. There the radiotext was shown in the BC display.

@tjskd: I'm afraid CD text won't be possible as the currently used CD changer doesn't support it

@Arnd: Ok, you are right. I need to be more precise, what I've seen (a rental car) was also a 407 without the RT3, but it had a BC-Display very similar to the monochrome version of my EV2 with RT3 and the radio was just lacking the telephone and navigation feature but had a menu button and cursor keys to navigate in the menu with icons!

So I suppose because of the integrated A/C control within the RT3 display of the 407 they needed to create something similar, possibly a stripped version of the RT3 in order to have the necessary car controls in place on cars without RT3. I can't imagine that this is a different software basis as the look and feel was nearly identical to my monochrome RT3 display in the EV2. Unfortunately I didn't try to look for a software version number, but maybe our friends from PSA can tell us some more infos about it ?

The radiotext was shown as a left scrolling bar within the radio display underneath the name of the radio station.

Yep, that's what I noticed too. But for me it looked like the adapted the BC layout, so it looks more like an RT3 (They had all the design work done once, so why not use the icons etc. for something different). Anyway, I'll would love to see an advanced radiotext implementation in the upcoming version.

One or two more.

Turn off the excessive voice directions when navigating. Why do I need to be told to "bear left" when staying on a motorway.
Another would be pass the returned GSM messages to the display. If you phone *11 something or other to get your pay as you go balance it does not send the answer returned from the servce provider to the display. Only "GMS message succeeded" message is displayed.

Be able to divert your route quicker (less menu navigating) when you see a traffic jam approaching.

I don't suppose re-designing the flap that covers the radio so I can get to the down arrow button when I move the map falls into the software catagory!

Just a few observations!!
